Bavaria 32

Brief details

Builder

Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH, Giebelstadt, Germany

A modern family yacht from Bavaria, with a wide range of options including choice of keels, engines, etc. The yachts are popular both with private owners and charter companies. Asking prices may vary considerably as although the base price of a new Bavaria has always been low, adding various options, such as deep keel, larger engine and teak decks can increase the price significantly. Also, the fact that many boats will have been used for charter can affect the amount of wear and tear they have received. Although called the Bavaria 32, the yacht is actually almost 34 feet in length.

Bavaria 32

Bavaria Yachtbau, in southern Germany, have been building yachts since 1973. Initially they built fairly expensive yachts, in small numbers, but since the mid 1990s have been concentrating on volume production of spacious family cruising boats, that have proved equally popular with private buyers and charter fleets.

In production from 2002 until 2005, the Bavaria 32 was designed by J & J Designs, and offers typical Bavaria style in a compact size. Modern Bavarias offer yachts with a very well finished and 'woody' interior at very reasonable cost thanks to a very highly developed mass production 'assembly line' facility, currently turning out nearly 3,000 boats a year.

The accommodation is fitted out in mahogany veneers over ply and wood composites.

Over the years Bavaria have been using progressively more composite boards and less ply, and less and less solid wood trim; nevertheless the overall effect has always been impressively 'woody' for a budget boat, with more lockers and stowage than in many other comparable boats. The cost-cutting does however show in details such as the matching of veneers

The accommodation consists of vee-double forecabin, with space for small seats and lockers aft, the main saloon, with galley to port and chart table to standard, and heads compartment and a double aft cabin. The 32 was only offered with this single aft cabin layout

Below: The heads compartment is aft of the chart table, and is an excellent size for a 32-footer. A holding tank is often fitted in the cockpit locker just aft of the heads compartment, with pump-out.

The engine seen here is the optional larger 28 hp Volvo 2030 (the standard engine is 18 hp).

The teak decks seen here are an option, adding about £3,000 to the base price. These are relatively thin teak panels, bonded down rather than screwed down as in traditional teak decks
