Dehler Duetta 8.6AS

Brief details

Builder

Dehler, Germany

Built by Dehler in Germany, the Duetta 86AS is a small motor-sailer which has a very unusual cabin layout that gives a lot of interior space for a 28 foot boat. The saloon seating converts from two singles to two double berths, plus enclosed heads, and aft of the centre cockpit, with wheel steering, is a two-berth aft cabin. Internal fit out is of high quality, with moulded GRP headlinings and inner structural mouldings, plus lots of veneered wood trim

Dehler Duetta 8.6AS

The Duetta was made in three variants, of which this is the AS type. This has a spacious saloon, with U-shaped seating around a central table (which raises and stows against the deckhead if not in use). The two side settees extend to form a pair of double berths. There is no forecabin, there being large lockers accessible from the saloon forward, plus a deep anchor well right forward. Saloon headroom is about 5' 10", and all berths are 6' 6" long. She also has a two-berth aft cabin, with sitting headroom.

The galley is to port in the saloon, with a gimbaled unit which comprises a two-burner stainless steel hob integrated with a sink unit.

The heads is opposite the galley, with marine WC and washbasin

Accessed from the cockpit, the aft cabin has two mirror-image 6' 6" long single berths, and good stowage set into the aft bulkhead.

The 3-cylinder Kubota diesel is accessed from a large removable section of cockpit sole forward of the wheel pedestal. Originally raw water cooled, the engine in the example illustrated has been converted to fresh water cooling

Dehler Duetta 8.6AS

Although nominally a motor-sailer, she does have a fairly efficient sailing hull form and fractional sloop rig with self-tacking jib. All halyards are led back to the cockpit

With the saloon table raised to the deckhead, the seating area offers remarkable space for a small yacht. Either (or both) of the two settees can each be converted into a double berth
