Yachtsnet's
archive of boat details and pictures
|
| |
The following information and photographs are
displayed as a service to anyone researching yacht types. Details
and photographs are normally based on one specific yacht, but could
be a compilation. No reliance should be placed on other yachts of
the same class being identical. Where common variations exist,
we have endeavoured to indicate this in these archive details.
The price guide covers the normal ranges of age and condition. Exceptional
boats, whether good or bad, may fall outside these guidelines. |

The Albin Ballad
is a fast, seaworthy cruiser-racer from the 1970s, a time when competitive
racing boats actually made effective cruisers. The Ballad was designed
by Rolf Magnusson, as a production version of his earlier very successful
'Joker' racing design. About 1,500 Ballads were built, and many
have made long offshore passages, including at least one circumnavigation.

The Ballad hull is solid GRP, with lead ballast encapsulated
into the keel. The deck is a GRP sandwich moulding, with
a smooth inner skin forming the headlining. The mast is
keel-stepped.
Ballads are both fast for their size and seaworthy, and
have a reputation for good, predictable handling. "Yachting
Monthly" described her as ".... the hull is
slim, well balanced and easily driven"
