The Westerly Pentland
is the twin keeled variant of Westerly's popular 31-footer design
from the 1970s, offering immensely solid construction, and comfortable
cruising accommodation. This very well looked after 1978 sloop rigged
version has in-mast reefing, and is for sale now only because of
a bereavement

The Westerly Pentland is one of the five models
(Berwick, Longbow,
Pentland, Renown, Westerly 31) all based on the same Laurent
Giles designed 31 foot hull. They were first introduced in
1973. All are heavy, powerful cruisers which sail better than
you might expect from their looks.
As with all Westerly's of this period, they were built to
Lloyds specifications which meant that the building processes
were rigorously monitored and all materials had to be approved
by Lloyds in order that a certificate could be issued. Although
no longer in production they still represent excellent value
for money. With deep safe cockpits, you sail in them rather
than on them, and they have the weight to smash through heavy
weather - helped if necessary by a powerful diesel. The distinctive
Westerly "bow knuckle" serves the dual purposes
of deflecting spray and creating more room below in the forecabin.
Whilst most Pentlands built were ketch rigged, Westerly did
produce some with sloop rigs, with better windward performance,
this being one of these sloop versions

The heads compartment separates forecabin and saloon, with hanging
space in a locker opposite. The heads has an Paloma on-demand
gas water heater providing constant hot water to the sinks in
the heads and the galley.

The Volvo Penta MD17C diesel is
probably original: these low-revving marine diesels are very long-lived
if looked after
Access to the aft cabin is via the cockpit. Although not shown
in the photos, there is a near-new full 'camper' cover for the
cockpit, making it effectively another living space in harbour
