Designed by Frans
Cobelens in Holland, the Klipper 30 is an interesting small but
very tough-looking steel cruiser. This example was fitted out to
a very high standard by her first owner, on a professionally built
steel hull. At 25 years of age, the steelwork is still generally
in superb condition. She is simply but very nicely
fitted out internally, with four good berths, plus a small quarterberth.
As she has not been used for some years, much of the equipment,
such as the Aries windvane, is stored off the boat at present. |

A steel yacht of this size is unusual in England,
but fairly common in Holland, from where this design originates.
The designer, Frans Cobelens, has designed everything from
racing dinghies to offshore supply vessels, including a range
of small steel yachts and the North Beach 24 and 29 GRP yachts.
She has a multi-chine steel hull, with a steel deck and coachroof
with steeply angled sides. In her first ownership she cruised
around the North Sea from her home port of Hull, and down
to Spain. She was bought by the present owner ten years ago
with the intention of long distance cruising, and has had
a substantial amount of work done on her, including new windows,
replacement of much of the steel detailing on deck with stainless,
and a full engine rebuild. |
