Rig

sloop

A classic small offshore cruiser - a tough, seaworthy little boat with useful accommodation, and thanks to the deep hull form better headroom than in many comparable sized boats. This is a really well looked after boat, with a refitted interior and a rig set up for easy mast lowering. The price includes use of a pontoon mooring on the Hamble until the end of March 2010, including the option of a months free storage ashore during this period.

Keel type

Long keel with transom-hung rudder

The Halcyon 27 was designed in 1968 by Alan Buchanan, as a development of the earlier 'Diamond II' design, and about 200 were built by Offshore Yachts. With a full keel and transom-hung rudder, they are a solid cruising boat with good sailing performance in all conditions.

This particular yacht was built under licence from Offshore Yachts by Anne Wever Shipyard in Holland, and spent much of her life there, hence the rig for lowering the mast easily for bridges.

The sink is under the worksurface at the starboard side aft, though the present owner uses this as the chart table.

The engine is a Sole Mini-17 two-cylinder 16 hp freshwater cooled diesel, and is clearly not original from 1972. A new propshaft was fitted in 2009.

The rig has been altered to allow easy mast lowering, with a curved A-frame and stainless bar extensions to the cap shroud bases. The A-frame could be removed if required.

The original mast step was directly on the coachroof, but this has been modified to spread the compression load to directly above the two interior bulkheads by the heads compartment, and a pinrail fitted for lines.
