The Westerly Renown is a solidly built family cruiser offering five berths in three cabins. This example has been in the same ownership for 20 years, and has been extensively cruised - including across Biscay to Spain and the Mediterranean. She is Part I registered, and fairly comprehensively equipped for serious cruising. The head-linings in this yacht were renewed throughout in early 2007. The price has just been reduced as the owner is keen to sell

Westerly Marine built about 250 Renowns between 1972 and 1979, the Renown being one of four models sharing the same 31 foot hull moulding. The design was by Laurent Giles, the hull showing it's obvious family similarity to the Centaur. As with the smaller Centaur, sailing performance is actually rather better than you would expect from looking at the hulls. All were solidly built, with the hulls moulded to Lloyds standards, and every hull having a Lloyds certificate.

When introduced they were regarded as medium displacement - though compared to most current yachts they are fairly heavy. Add to this a powerful diesel and you have a sensibly priced family cruiser offering very useful and flexible accommodation. "Yachting Monthly" has described them as ".... safe, steady, all-weather cruisers".

The hull had seven coats of epoxy in around 1997, whilst ashore in Spain, after checking that moisture levels in the laminate were low. The topsides have been painted - originally they were dark blue, and had faded badly by 1996, when they were first painted.

This yacht has covered a lot of miles in her life, but has clearly been well looked after. She offers a solid cruising boat at an attractive price, in full commission and ready to sail.....
