cutter
Designed by the late
Alan Pape, this cruising cutter is 38 feet on deck, and is built
of epoxy coated Corten steel. She has a watertight door to the forecabin,
providing a collision bulkhead, and has excellent accommodation
including an enclosed double berth cabin forward, and a raised dinette
in the saloon that lets you look out whilst sitting at the table.
With bowthruster, an in-mast furling mainsail, and two headsails
on roller furling gears, she is set up for very easy handling.

Alan Pape was well known as a designer of long-distance
yachts. His most popular designs were the Ebbtides, Sagas
and Cuttyhunks, but he also drew many other yachts, mostly
in steel.
The exact design of this yacht is unknown, but with her clipper
bow she looks much like one of Pape's Cuttyhunk 38 designs,
although the underwater body is slightly different, and she
has a larger coachroof and different internal layout. She
is built of Corten steel, a high tensile steel alloy containing
copper, chrome and other metals, which is often used unpainted
for shipping containers and outdoor architectural use. When
exposed to weather bare Corten steel forms a rust-coloured
oxide layer which protects against further corrosion, although
it can also be painted.
The underwater hull was stripped back to bare metal and re-epoxied
in 2004: this photo is from November 2007, with most of the antifouling
removed back to the epoxy.
The saloon has a dinette to port, with a single
quarterberth aft. To starboard are the galley and chart table. A
passageway forward leads to the forecabin, with a watertight bulkhead
door. To starboard of this passageway forward is a hanging locker
and another single passage berth, and to port is the heads compartment
and an enclosed double cabin

Accommodation plan - not to scale
The double cabin has a berth 6' 7" long, and 3' 10"
wide at the aft end, tapering very slightly forward

The Perkins 4108 diesel is under the saloon sole,
and has a Hurth P100 gearbox and an Aquadrive anti-vibration coupling
to the propshaft

The deck is covered
with Tek-dek synthetic teak planking
Photos below from owner
She is a remarkably spacious and well equipped
and fitted out steel cruiser, and is for sale now as the retired
owner is looking to downsize. She has very good sails and a fairly
complete inventory.
