Alan Pape's Ebbtides are one of the classic long-distance yachts, with a long full keel, transom-hung rudder for strength and ease of installation of a windvane. This 1988 example has been extensively cruised, and in 2000/2001 had a major refit, including a new Beta diesel, in preparation for further long-distance work. Unfortunately, however, health reasons have led to her now being for sale.

Alan Pape, of the Curtis & Pape boatyard in Looe, Cornwall, designed the Ebbtide 33 and 36 yachts as heavyweight cruisers, aimed very much at long-distance sailing. Built of hard chine steel, with a short doghouse on a semi-flush deck, and a transom-hung rudder, Ebbtides have been built with sloop or cutter rigs.

This Ebbtide 36 has a cutter rig with self-tacking boomed staysail plus a roller genoa , and is fitted with an Aries windvane gear. She has been thoroughly refitted ready for further long-distance sailing, and is very much 'ready to go'.

The heads is to port between saloon and forecabin

Below: The saloon table can drop to provide a double berth if required. There is a pilot berth above the settee to starboard, and to port a bookshelf

The chart table is to port, and aft of this is the entrance to the aft cabin, which has two separate single berths, the starboard berth being wider than the port, and thus nominally a double

The Beta diesel is under the raised portion of the cabin sole below the companionway. It was installed new by the present owners, and has run under 100 hours

She has a near-flush deck forward of the doghouse, with granny bars around the mast, and a fold-down boom gallows to support the boom when anchored or when reefing. The staysail can be rigged either to be boomed and self-tacking, or boomless, and to sheet further back to a second set of tracks (this latter option gives better sail set for prolonged offwind work). A manual anchor windlass is fitted on the foredeck. In addition to the opening hatches, there are prismatic deadlights set into the deck to increase light below.

This yacht has been carefully prepared for long-distance cruising by a very experienced owner, and is very fully equipped. She is for sale now only because of health reasons ....
