Westerly Marine built about 250 Renowns between 1972 and 1979, the Renown being one of four models sharing the same 31 foot hull moulding. The design was by Laurent Giles, the hull showing it's obvious family similarity to the Centaur. As with the smaller Centaur, sailing performance is actually rather better than you would expect from looking at the hulls. All were solidly built, with the hulls moulded to Lloyds standards, and every hull having a Lloyds certificate.

When introduced they were regarded as medium displacement - though compared to most current yachts they are fairly heavy. Add to this a powerful diesel and you have a sensibly priced family cruiser offering very useful and flexible accommodation. "Yachting Monthly" has described them as ".... safe, steady, all-weather cruisers".

Forecabin, with a near-new genoa folded on the berth.

The forecabin is seen here with the original vinyl berth cushions, but new red fabric cushions, matching the saloon and aft cabin, have been made, but not yet put on board.

The original headlinings (always a problem on older Westerlys ) have been renewed thoughout.

There is pressurised hot and cold water to galley and heads, with a shower in the heads

Behind the sink is a deep icebox with refrigeration

The berth cushions in the aft cabin are barand new - still wrapped in plastic.
