The Hurley 24/70
is a small cruiser with four six foot plus long berths, and almost
six foot headroom in the saloon. She has a small high aspect ratio
mainsail, and a fairly large genoa. This example has a Yanmar diesel,
was completely rewired in 2006, and has a good inventory including
radar and chartplotter. It could be
possible to take over use of a mooring with this yacht.

Ian Anderson designed the Hurley 24/70 for
Hurley Marine in 1972, as a larger version of the long-running
and very successful Hurley 22, but with a more modern look,
and in particular, with more headroom. He also switched from
the long keel of the earlier Hurley designs to a more modern
fin and skeg configuration. Most Hurley 24/70s were inboard
engined, with a 5 hp Petter diesel, but some were outboard-powered.
By now most of these original engines have been replaced.
When Hurley went out of business in 1974 the mouldings of
the Hurley 24/70 were taken over by Atlanta Marine, who marketed
the yacht as the Atlanta 24, and later cut the hull mould
amidships and stretched it from 23' 9" to 24' 9"
to make the Atlanta 25.
The boat was marketed when new as
having six foot headroom, but that clearly referred only to one
precise point underneath the hatch. In fact saloon headroom is 5'
7" forward to 5' 10" aft, which is actually quite good
for a 24 foot boat with a reasonably attractive cabin top
The heads compartment has a door, but the forecabin
has a canvas screen separating it from the saloon. The vee-berth
makes two singles 6' 6" long on the vee . with an infill to
make a double berth.
The galley has a small sink, and at present this boat is fitted
with a gimbaled two-burner gas cooker with an integral Camping
Gaz bottle
Both saloon berths are 6' 5" long.
The radar display, chartplotter and VHF radio are mounted on a
board
which can face inwards to the cabin or be set in the companionway
to be viewed from the cockpit,
Engine access is via a removable panel in the saloon,
plus a hinged hatch in the forward part of the cockpit sole.
The Yanmar diesel has had a Balmar high-output 110 amp alternator
added.
