Legend 340s are American-built Hunters, and offer remarkable interior space and comfort for their size. They are very much designed for comfort in a marina, but also provide good sailing performance in the sort of weather most people want to be sailing in. This wing-keeled version has in-mast mainsail furling making her very easy to handle. This yacht is for sale now as the owners are planning to move to a powerboat.

The Hunter Legend 340 was built by Hunter Marine Corporation in Florida, a company which has built over 30,000 sailing yachts since the late 1960s. American built Hunters were marketed in the UK as Hunter Legends, to distinguish them from the quite different British Hunters from Hunter Boats. From 2000 to 2006 Hunter Marine Corporation also had a factory in Dorset in the UK, but this 1998 yacht was built before this UK factory was operational.

The Hunter 340 is a development of the Hunter 335 and 336 boats from the early to mid 1990s. Introduced in 1997, and sharing the same hull as the earlier versions, the Hunter 340 yacht has the by now almost trademark Hunter cockpit arch supporting the mainsail sheet track, keeping the track well out of harms way for children in the large, family-friendly cockpit. The backstayless Bergström fractional rig looks unusual, but has been well proven, and having the large mainsail as the main source of driving power makes handling easy, with light jib sheet loads when tacking. Yachting Monthly described these boats as "...easy to sail, and reasonably quick".

This 1998 example has the standard keel, which is a shallow bulbed keel with small wings - there was also an optional deeper keel. The sail area is quite large for the size of boat, giving good light airs performance, and with in-mast furling for the main and a roller jib reefing is simple, with everything controlled from the cockpit.
