This Yarmouth 23 GRP gaff cutter was built as a demonstration boat for the builders, and was exhibited at the 2012 and 2013 Southampton Boat Shows. Now in her second private ownership she is for sale as other commitments are giving less and less opportunities for the owner to sail her.

The Yarmouth 23 was designed in 1988 by Gordon Wyatt and David Freeman, best known as designers of the Fisher range of motor-sailers from 25 to 46 feet. The Yarmouth 23 has a long keel and a raised foredeck to improve interior space, with a gaff cutter rig.

These yachts were built in relatively small numbers, initially in the UK, but in the early 2000s construction moved to Neil Marine in Sri Lanka, who later also took over construction of the Fisher motorsailers. They were always more expensive than comparable Cornish Crabbers - the other range of production GRP gaffers. Whilst the Crabbers mostly have beamier, shallower hulls with centreboards, the Yarmouth 23 has a traditional long keel, is heavier displacement and has more internal headroom. This example has Burmese teak decks and a 20 hp Beta engine instead of the standard 13.5 hp. She is RCD Cat 'B' - Offshore rated.

In comparison with (for instance) a new Cornish Crabber 24 at just over £100,000, the Yarmouth 23 is a little narrower in beam yet substantially heavier, and has more headroom internally, something many owners appreciate. You have to go to the £150,000+ Crabber 26 to get the same headroom.

'Yachting Monthly' said “.... the Yarmouth is a top quality, substantial yet pretty pocket cruiser for the discerning and traditionally minded yachtsman” whilst 'Practical Boat Owner' described them as ".... pocket sized long-keelers with traditional charm and modern build". One early Yarmouth 23 made a transatlantic passge to the Caribbean, and on to Brazil.
