This is one of the very earliest Rustler 31s, being the seventh hull built. She has an interesting history, originally being owned by the Royal Armoured Corps Yacht Club, in which ownership she raced at Cowes Week in 1967 with HRH Princess Anne on board - she has since bought two larger Rustlers herself. In 1973 she was 3rd in class in the Fastnet Race. The RACYC kept her until 1978, when she was sold into private ownership. The present owner bought her ten years ago, and has in that time done substantial renewals and refurbishment, including new spars, sails and standing rigging, and some new electronics.

The Rustler 31 was designed by Kim Holman and Russell Anstey in around 1964/65, and is generally regarded as a bigger version of Holman's famous earlier Stella and Twister designs, these also being a development of the Folkboat type. Later a larger version was built, the Rustler 36. There is a definite family resemblance between all these yachts, and they all share an excellent reputation for seaworthiness and all-weather speed.

Rustler 31s have been built by a number of builders, including Ansteys, Maltings and Orion Marine. Also, particularly in later years, a substantial numbers of bare mouldings were also sold for home completion.

'Yachting Monthly' published a used boat review of the Rustler 31 in 2016 and wrote ".... Compact and superbly built, the Rustler 31 is ideal for a two-man crew" and "With her sound design, substantial build quality, encapsulated long keel and high ballast ratio she is steadfast and sea-kindly". Another comment was "The deep vee-sectioned, overhanging bow cuts through waves rather than slamming, and little water reaches her cockpit unless you push her too hard. Though slower to react to the helm than a lightweight fin-keel yacht, she is thoroughly predictable and gets on with the job regardless of sea and weather".
