Photographs
September 2011
This X119 has two sets of mainsail and No 1 genoa, from North Sails in 2007, and new from Ultimate Sails in 2011. As well as other headsails, she has a 2010 spinnaker and a 2008 Code 0 asymmetric. |
The standard keel on the X-119 is a torpedo bulb of 6' 5" draught as shown on the standard hull plan at left. This yacht has a deeper winged fin designed by designer Stephen Jones, who has redesigned the keels of quite a few production yachts to improve performance. The hull has a bilge window just to starboard of the keel root, to allow for a check for weed on the keel whilst sailing. |

Aft of the deck anchor locker is the V-berth forecabin: here if the cushions are removed the berth bases hinge up against the hull sides to form a large sail bin for racing, with the opening hatch above giving foredeck access. |

The saloon has straight settee berths, above which are pipe cots with leecloths. Outboard of the berths the hull sides are lines with wooden slats, as in the forecabin.
In the photo above drop-down PVC covers keep the berths dry from any rain or spray from the large main hatch when racing - there being similar covers over the chart table and galley areas. A proper cruising type saloon table with central storage box and drop-down side leaves can be securely fitted over the stainless steel rail just aft of the mast, though this table had not yet been put back aboard when these photos were taken. |
The forward surface of the chart table lifts to provide access
to a large top loading ice box underneath. Apart from wear
and tear
to the chart table/galley half bulkhead, obviously from
crew in wet oilies wearing metal harness fittings, and from sails being
repacked below, the interior is in good condition for the boat's age.

put back into "cruising mode" after a series of races

There are two mirror-image aft cabins, each with a
small double berth, with a hinged pipe cot above.

The Volvo 2003 diesel has very good access after removing the companionway step box.
The engine drives a two-bladed folding prop via a Saildrive, and on the day
these photographs were taken started instantly from cold
and ran smoothly
and relatively quietly with little smoke.
In her present ownership she has completed seven Fastnet races,
and regularly achieved top three places in RORC and JOG events.
She is for sale now as the owner is looking to move to a more definitely
cruising-orientated boat - though still a fast one!
