A Tony Castro design for MG Yachts, the MG335 is, like virtually every Castro design, a fast yacht. She also has a surprisingly comfortable interior, including an aft double cabin. With a fractional rig with self-tacking jib, she is easy to handle. This one-owner example is reluctantly for sale only for health reasons.

MG Yachts started life as primarily a builder of racing boats, but sold a number of fairly high performance cruiser-racers through the 1980s, mostly designed by Tony Castro.

Built from 1987 onwards, the MG335 was moulded by Northshore, and was a true cruiser-racer. As a racer this yacht currently sails off an IRC rating of 0.952, or PYS of 906. As a cruiser she has a fully fitted interior with up to seven 2 metre long berths, including a very good sized aft double.

'Yachting Monthly' described the MG335 as ".... in terms of performance and handling she was simply delightful, extremely well-balanced, fast, close winded and responsive."

There is a small moulding in the forecabin which was intended to be a sink, but on this yacht this has never been fitted with water tap or drain

The interior is fitted out in teak over internal GRP mouldings. This yacht has been used since new by the present owner for regular club racing, and cross-channel cruising.

The builders quoted the headroom at 6' 4" in their brochure, but this is under the hatch - in reality it is about 6' 2" in the saloon, and only an inch or two less in the forecabin, aft cabin and heads

The galley has a good seagoing arrangement , with twin sinks and deep icebox. Aft of the galley is the door to the double aft cabin, which has a really good sized berth for an aft-cockpit yacht

The aft cabin also gives excellent access to the engine, as seen here, although there is also forward access under the companionway steps. This is one of the Volvo 2000 series engines which had the well publicised potential gearbox spline problem - on this engine the modification which cures this has been carried out

The heads compartment is aft of the chart table (below), and has a moulded sink unit, with shower fitting, and marine WC

The blade jib is self-tacking with a curved track forward of the mast.

This yacht is offered for sale now in commission, and ready to sail, with everything working. As is common with regularly raced boats, the interior varnishwork is a little tired, but this will quite easily tidy up. She has good recent sails, which have been virtually unused for the last 2-3 years, the engine has been regularly serviced, and the standing rigging was all replaced in 2000.
