This 1987 example is a very good example of the class - it is unknown who carried out the fit-out of the hull, but it is to a fully professional standard, with high quality joinery and well installed wiring and systems. She has had an osmosis treatment in 2002, had a new engine in 1997, and is for sale now as the syndicate of owners are splitting up, as age takes its toll on some of the members. If you are thinking of a Westerly or a Moody - look at this yacht as well !

Keel type

Twin bilge keels with encapsulated ballast and skeg-hung rudder

Designed by Ian Anderson in 1980, the Countess 33 is a spacious family cruiser with a centre cockpit and a good sized aft cabin. This example has two heads - one being en-suite to the aft double cabin.

The Countess hulls were moulded by Colvic, and supplied part-complete to both amateur and professional boatbuilders for completion.

Countesses were built with both sloop and ketch rigs, and bilge or fin keels. This is a ketch-rigged bilge-keeler, making her a very versatile and easily managed cruising yacht

Above and left: Forecabin and forward heads compartment, which has a shower. Hot water comes from an on-demand gas heater in the galley. There is ducted hot-air heating fitted, powered by a Mikuni diesel heater.

Aft of the chart table on the port side is the (quite low) passageway through to the aft cabin, with a single passage berth outboard. The main engine access is off this passageway

The aft cabin has a trapezoid-shaped athwartships double berth, 48" wide, and over 8 feet long at the forward side, tapering to just over 5 ft at the aft end.

The aft cabin has an en-suite heads on the starboard side, and large lockers (not shown in the photos) to port

This yacht has all the expensive bits in very good order, and only needs some minor updating of the electronics (which are now fairly cheap), to be a very well equipped and capable family cruiser, with bilge keels allowing the use of drying moorings.
