The Westerly Konsort remains one of the most popular Westerly designs, offering a great deal of interior space for a 29 foot hull. This 1980 version is one of the less common fin keel versions, and is in very good order throughout. In her present ownership she has had a new engine, new standing rigging and a full "camper" cover made and fitted, plus quite a lot of other items of gear.

Sailplan

The Westerly Konsort was designed by Laurent Giles in 1979 to "fill the gap" in Westerly's range between the 26 ft Centaur and the various Longbow/Medway/Berwick/Renown models all based on the same 31 foot hull. The Konsort was offered with a choice of three keel options - fin, twin keel or lift keel - the twin bilge keel version being the most commonly found.

With 10' 9" beam the Konsort offers a lot of interior space, effectively as much as the narrower and older 31 ft designs, which made her one of Westerly's long-running and popular model, with 700+ built between 1979 and 1992, though most of those sales were in the first six years of production, after which the Konsort became expensive in comparison to similar sized foreign imports.

By the mid 1980s there was also a trend to buyers wanting separate aft cabins (something many French boats offered) rather than the more traditional layout with quarterberths, and Westerly emulated this with the Merlin in 1984. From 1984 to 1992 the Merlin and Konsort were on sale at the same time. The Konsort remains however the bigger boat overall, despite not having a separate aft cabin.

In 2017 'Yachting Monthly' reviewed the design, reporting ".... She’s an eminently practical boat for coastal cruising with plenty of living space and ample room for a family, or even a full crew of five adults, including oodles of stowage" and "....She is light on the helm, super responsive but by the same token she’s not directionally stable. She has a superbly secure cockpit for offshore sailing: easy to use solo, yet with buckets of room for a full crew."
