"Grassholm" was built for Trinity House in 1970, under the supervision of their own surveyors, as a seagoing pilot vessel, capable of handling the heaviest of weather. The hull is very strongly constructed of 2” teak planking on oak frames at 12” centres, doubled from the water line to the keel. She has bilge keels fitted, and the main deck and bridge superstructure is constructed of aluminium. She retains her original water tight doors, hatches and bulkheads. She is powered by a Gardner 8L3B eight cylinder naturally aspirated diesel, driving a 48" three bladed propeller through a 3:1 reduction box and hydraulic gearbox. The engine has twin starter motors, twin alternators, and there is a separate auxiliary Lister diesel generator in the very large, walk around engine room.

She remained in Trinity House ownership, maintained to the standards required by DTI Class VIIIA, until purchased by her present owner, who refitted the interior in teak paneling to use as a long-distance motor yacht with live-aboard comfort. She now has two private double cabins, one with a full size double berth and the other with two singles, plus two more single bunks. If required there are two more settee berths in the saloon, and a further two crew berths in the lazarette store room aft of the engine room. Both double cabins have their own washbasins, and the heads has a proper full size shower compartment

The galley has a gas cooker with 4 hobs, grill and oven, and good sink, drainer and work surfaces, plus refrigerator with freezer compartment. Water heating is by gas.

Forward of the saloon and galley is the large wheelhouse, with full electronics including radar, GPS with NMEA output for computer display, autopilot, echo sounder and repeater, fish-finder, radio receiver and two separate VHF radio transmitters. As well as the helmsman's seat, there is additional seating and a good sized chart table.

Below: the lower deck is reached by companionway steps leading down to a teak paneled corridor, off which are the doors to the engine room, heads, and two double cabins. At one side of this corridor, on the starboard side, are also two curtained bunks.

The master cabin, with full sized double. Both cabins, plus the saloon and wheelhouse, have gas heaters

Overall, she is an impressively strongly built and powerful long range all-weather motor cruiser. Whilst externally she retains a workmanlike look and feel, the interior accommodation is very attractively and comfortably fitted out for living aboard.
