The Fisher 34 is a traditionally styled motor-sailer on the general lines of a North Sea fishing boat, of very heavy displacement, and with an excellent reputation for seaworthiness. The Fisher 34 is generally regarded as the model in the Fisher range with the best sailing performance. This 1978 example had a major and very expensive refit in the late 1990s, including rewiring, new sails, and almost entirely new electronics.

Designed by Wyatt and Freeman in 1977, the Fisher 34 has been in continual production, with minor variations to internal layout and fit-out, ever since.

The boats were first marketed by Fairways Marine, but have always been built by Northshore, the current builders. About 130 have been built to date.

To quote 'Yachting Monthly' ".... sailing performance is definitely towards the motor end of the motor-sailing spectrum, but given a decent breeze on the beam they do genuinely sail. To windward, when it's miserable, their powerful engines and cosy wheelhouses make the discomfort more bearable'

The aft cabin has just had a new bunk cushion (still in it's plastic wrap). The remaining upholstery is believed to be original, but is still in good condition.

Engine access is from under the wheelhouse sole, with three large removable panels (two open here). The Thornycroft engine runs well

The mainmast was fitted with a Easyreef in-mast furling system, with a new tan colour Maxi-roach sail by Arun sails in 1998. All other sails also date from 1998, by Arun in tan canvas, and have had very little use. She was also fitted with a mast-mounted telescopic spinnaker pole, for the still virtually unused cruising chute

A removable tiller fits on the rudder head in the cockpit if required

Although very little used, and hence in need of a good scrub up and polish, and a fairly minor amount of varnishing or teak oil, this 1978 Fisher 34 offers a very good opportunity for someone looking for this type of all-weather cruiser. She has lots of relatively recent, good quality equipment.
