A classic design from Laurent Giles, the Peter Duck class evolved from an original yacht ( called "Peter Duck" ) which was built for Arthur Ransome, the author of 'Swallows & Amazons', etc.

About 40 Peter Duck ketches were built, most by Porter & Haylett, although the detailed fit-out of each was not always identical, these yachts being built to order rather than as a 'production' boat. The distinctive high doghouse gives remarkable headroom below.

The Peter Duck design is well known for their passage-making qualities and afford a remarkably dry cockpit in heavy weather. The ketch rig makes for easy single-handed management.

The forecabin has two single berths each about 7' 0" long, with fixed leeboards.
The saloon has two more settee berths each 6' 3" long.

The heads compartment has a pull-out washbasin over the marine WC, with a large hanging locker opposite

Below: saloon headroom is 6' 8" under the doghouse aft, and remains over 6' 0" throughout the forward part of the cabin.

The 35 hp Beta diesel was installed new three years ago, and has run only about 50 hours.

The ketch rig has spruce spars and is heavily rigged with S/S standing rigging, including twin forestays, allowing a roller genoa and a small storm headsail to be set hanked.

The age of the standing rigging cannot be proven, but is believed to be under ten years. Most of the running rigging is near new.

This is a good example of a classic cruising design. As you can see from the photos above, there is some rust on the galvanised stanchion bases and deck fittings, but overall she is in very good order, with the major advantage of a new engine.
