Designed by Julian Everitt, this yacht was built as a cruiser-racer with the emphasis very much on the 'racer' side. She has completed two transatlantic races, two AZABs, two Round Britains and a Fastnet, mostly singlehanded or shorthanded. Her current IRC rating is 1.029 and a STIX index of 34.

Keel type

Deep iron fin keel with lead/antimony bulb (approx 30% ballast ratio) plus forward unballasted canard fin, and spade rudder

Julian Everitt designed the Channel 36 as a larger development of his Wavetrain 32 racing boat. This yacht, "Predator", was the first built. The hull has all the characteristics of modern ocean racers, a shallow broad hull with narrow waterline beam, and deep bulbed fin. She has a second canard fin forward, and a watertight collision bulkhead at the bow.

Hull construction is of foam sandwich GRP, with knitted quadraxial/biaxial and unidirectional glass fabrics. The deck is also foam sandwich GRP, with unidirectional glass reinforcement in load areas. The keel is a cast iron fin, with a lead/antimony bulb at its base. She has a fairly big fractional rig with a keel-stepped alloy mast.

Composite photo above from the builders brochure. When built the yacht was conceived as a high performance racer with a cruising interior, although this one has been used mostly as a racer

When built the saloon had most of the existing furniture, although two pilot berths outboard of the saloon settees have since been fitted out as lockers and bookshelves. Forward of the main bulkhead is a sail storage area, with a collision bulkhead separating this from the bow area

The original Perkins engine was replaced ion 2004 with a new Lombardini diesel. The engine is mounted under the table box, and drives a folding prop

The chart table is aft of the galley, in the passageway to one of the two aft cabins, each of which has a double berth divided by a lee cloth if required

To starboard is the heads compartment, and the other aft cabin with a washbasin unit forward of the berth

On deck she is in good order, but the interior is scruffy, and some rewiring is need, as although the main electrics and sailing instruments work, some lighting circuits have failed. Nevertheless, she offers a very fast boat with quite a lot of good gear (newish rig, engine etc) for not a lot of money.....
