A Laurent Giles classic, Peter Duck ketches are solidly built shoal draught motor-sailers. This 1962 example was built to Lloyds 100AI standards in iroko on bent oak frames, copper fastened. She has splined topsides, and a cast iron long keel with lead ballast. The hull is part Cascover sheathed, and she has had a comprehensive refit in 1998/99, since then having been well maintained, including checks and some replacements of keel bolts. A mooring in Emsworth Harbour could be available with the yacht if required.

A classic design from Laurent Giles, the Peter Duck class evolved from an original yacht ( called "Peter Duck" ) which was built for Arthur Ransome, the author of 'Swallows & Amazons', etc.

About 40 Peter Duck ketches were built, most by Porter & Haylett of Great Yarmouth, although the detailed fit-out of each was not always identical, these yachts being built to order rather than a 'production' boat.

The Peter Duck design is well known for their passage-making qualities and afford a remarkably dry cockpit in heavy weather.
The ketch rig makes for easy single-handed management.

Above: the lining around the galley is heat-proof powder coated aluminium sheeting. The yacht has been completely rewired in the present ownership.

Below: the 48 hp Thornycroft engine drives an 18" by 4" pitch three-bladed prop.

Photographed ashore in February 2008 in a boatyard shed, where she has been stored ashore each winter since 1999. The underwater hull has been stripped of antifouling ready for re-antifouling.

Construction is iroko on oak, with the topsides splined, and finished in two-pack polyurethane. The underwater hull is sheathed. The keel is iron, and since 1999 a number of keelbolts have been drawn, with some replacements, although not strictly necessary. The deck is sheathed ply, and the coachroof and cockpit brightwork are varnished mahogany.
