One of the classic
production cruiser racers from the 1970s, the She 31 still offers
excellent performance and useful accommodation. This example has
had a great deal of upgrading over the past few years, with a complete
new rig, new engine, new sails, and modern electronics. She also
has an Atlantic windvane self-steering gear. If you are looking
for a boat as fast, seaworthy and pretty as a Contessa 32, without
the "Contessa premium" on the price - look at this She
31. |

In the late 1960s and through the 1970s South
Hants Marine built a range of fast cruiser/racers under the
"She" name, all designed by Sparkman & Stephens
of New York. Like most S&S designs these were all fast,
well-mannered boats. The first She design was the She 31,
but 27s, 32s, 33s and the She
36 were also built.
The She 31 was one of the most successful and
attractive Sparkman & Stephens designed production cruiser-racers.
In many ways comparable to the Contessa 32s, which are of
the same era, they share the same virtues of excellent handling,
all-weather performance and high ultimate stability, as well
as being exceptionally pretty. "Yachting Monthly"
recently described them as "..... regarded by many
as the epitome of good IOR design".
Compared to modern yachts the accommodation, like the Contessa
32, is relatively small, but works well at sea. There were
two other yachts derived from the original She 31 design,
the She 9.5 Traveller, which was produced by South Hants Marine
as a cruising version, with slightly more headroom, and finally
a few boats built as Delta 95s by Laird Adams, with even more
headroom, and a revised interior with more timber veneering
and trim.
