Designed by Alan Buchanan as a motorsailer, though she is really more of a powerfully engined sailing yacht, the Neptune 33 is a heavily built comfortable cruising yacht with a deep safe cockpit, and helm protection from a fixed windscreen. This example is in good condition for her age, and the hull was epoxied in 2004. She has good sails and was re-engined at some time in the 1990s.

The Neptune 33 and Neptunian 33 are both based on the same Tyler-moulded hull, but with different deck and interior layouts. The Neptune is the at-cockpit version, and the Neptunian has a centre cockpit. Both boats were built by J. W. Shuttlewood, and Johnson, Sons & Jago, on Tyler Boat Co. mouldings. 43 of the Neptunes were built in total from 1966 to 1979, and 56 Neptunians from 1968 to 1979.

The Neptune 33 has a very deep coaming at the forward end of the cockpit, a feature seen in some other Alan Buchanan designs, giving good weather protection, if an unusual look. The hull is a traditional long-keeled sailing hull with external iron ballast.

The original engines fitted were Perkins 4.236 or 4.108 diesels, although this yacht has been re-engined with a more modern Perkins Prima 50 hp diesel.
