The Countess 28 is a high volume family cruiser with a very spacious interior for her length. This one owner yacht has seen relatively little use, and is well equipped and in very good condition for her age. She was fitted out from a bare hull partly by the present owner, and partly by a local boatyard. The owner is now looking for a larger and faster yacht for more extended cruising.

Twin bilge keels with encapsulated ballast and skeg-hung rudder

In the 1970s/80s Colvic was one of the largest moulders of GRP yacht hulls in England, the bare hulls being then sold on both to professional yacht builders, and to DIY home finishers.

The Countess 28 was designed in 1979 by Ian Anderson as a comfortable, solid cruising yacht. This example was part fitted out by the owner, with part of the work also done by The Elephant Boatyard at Hamble.

Both fin keel and twin bilge keel versions were produced, this being a bilge keel example, with the owner fitting extra protection to the keel bases in the form of external 'shoes'.

(these photos were taken mid-way through some pre-season maintenance including painting and varnishing parts of the interior - some of the painted ply has not yet had topcoats, some varnishing remains to be done to locker doors, and the carpets were removed)

The dinette table top can be lowered to form a double berth 74" by 44".

All other berths are also approx 74" long

Above: The instruments include a Raymarine colour chartplotter plus Autohelm wind/speed/depth instruments - the units having been removed here for storage during winter.

The Petter Twin diesel was converted to freshwater cooling in 1990

The mast, boom, kicker and standing rigging rig were replaced in 2007

This yacht offers a great deal of boat, in generally very good condition for her age, for the money. She has a very spacious interior, with 6 ft headroom in a bright and airy cabin, is well equipped, and has been well maintained by an experienced owner.
