Sailplan

Henri Wauquiez started building yachts in 1964 at Neuville en Ferrain, near the French border with Belgium. Wauquiez liked Holman and Pye designs, and many of his earlier ranges of yachts came from them. Some later designs were by Ed Dubois, and the company also built Hood 38s designed by Ted Hood. Wauquiez was always a high quality builder, and his yachts more expensive than most other production French boats.

The Wauquiez business was purchased in 1988 by Olivier Prouvost, and taken again over by Beneteau in 2007. Currently Wauquiez build yachts from 42 to 58 ft in length, many of them pilot saloon types.

Just over 200 Pretorien 35s were built between 1979 and 1988/89 to a Holman and Pye design. They have moderate to heavy displacement hulls with a bulbed lead keel giving almost a 50% ballast ratio which allows her to carry a fairly large rig. Most had saildrives, but some, including this yacht for sale, had shaft drives. The interior is beautifully finished. The end result is an elegant, fast, seaworthy yacht - a design that is deservedy regarded as a modern classic.
